Skin Cancer
Most skin cancers are preventable with the use of a $70 dollar medication called Efudex. In Dr. Bandeian's opinion, it is medical malpractice for a doctor who treats skin cancer to not prescribe Efudex or a similar medication for their patients who are at risk for getting basal or squamous cell skin cancers.
Although these cancers are almost never life threatening, Dr. Bandeian thinks it is important and easy to prevent these skin cancers. Therefore, he has prescribed Efudex for hundreds of his cosmetic patients who are at risk for these skin cancer for free.
Basal and squamous cell skin cancers can be removed by excision, MOHS surgery or by radiation.
MOHS is a surgical procedure that Dermatologists often perform for skin cancers. MOHS results in a 99% cure rate for these non-lethal cancers. However, MOHS typically costs thousands of dollars and often results in big scars like the one shown below.
Excision is a minor surgical procedure that typically results in a small scar like the one shown below. The cure rate for these cancers with excision is 95%. Although skin cancers rarely come back after excision, it is a simple matter to re-excise the non-lethal cancer.
Dr. Bandeian has removed thousands of skin cancers over the years. Only a handful of them have ever required re-excision.
