A facelift tightens the skin of the face and neck. A forehead lift corrects problems with the forehead and upper eyelids. Although a facelift will remove some of the wrinkles on the face, there are other procedures that are more effective at removing fine lines of the face. A facelift does not remove any fine lines from around the mouth, on the forehead or on the eyelids. Patients who are interested in a facelift in Bristol, TN may call Dr. Bandeian’s plastic surgery Bristol office for a consultation. The cost of the consultation is applied to the surgical fee. Dr. Bandeian usually performs facelift procedures at Bristol Plastic Surgery Center with a combination of sedation by vein and local anesthesia.
Many patients who are considering facial surgery are often concerned about developing an “operated” or “unnatural” look that stigmatizes them as having had cosmetic surgery. Bristol face lift surgeon Dr. Bandeian is very careful not to “over operate” on his patients, and, to the best of his knowledge, once the normal swelling from surgery subsides, all of his patients have a natural, more youthful appearance.
Face lift surgery can produce dramatic improvements in the appearance of a patient’s, lower face and anterior neck. A common misconception is that a face lift treats the entire face. A face lift excels at correcting loose skin that has sagged from the effects of gravity. A face lift does not remove wrinkles around the mouth, forehead or eyelids and it does not treat sagging skin of the eyelids or forehead. Drooping eyebrows and wrinkles forehead skin are treated with a forehead lift (or to a limited extent with Botox/Dysport). Eyelid problems are typically treated with eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty). The most dramatic effects of a face lift are seen with correction of jowls and correction of sagging skin on the neck. To a lesser degree, a face lift will help reduce the lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
Dr. Bandeian always has his patients to come for a second consultation before the surgery. At this consultation, he reviews with his patients what was discussed at the first consultation to make sure he clearly understands the needs and wishes of his patients. He also answers any questions his patients may have, and he reviews the surgical technique with the patient. He also completes the history and physical exam on his patients, and gives his patients the special instructions they will need for their surgery to be safely done. Smoking presents special problems for facelifts, and it is mandatory that patients not smoke or be exposed to second hand smoke for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Dr. Bandeian gives his Bristol, Johnson City, Elizabethton, Tri-Cities, TN-VA and Kingsport facelift patients 3 prescriptions: one for antiseptic soap to use before surgery, one for prophylactic antibiotics and one for pain medication. He gives his patients a choice of different pain medication, because he wants his patients to be as comfortable as possible after the surgery.
The operation takes about 3–1/2 to 5 hours. The incision from the facelift is usually very inconspicuous. Dr. Bandeian frequently does liposuction on the neck and/or muscle work on the neck as a routine part of the facelift. After the surgery, a bulky bandage is applied. Patients should have a responsible adult drive them home from the surgery center and stay with them on the night of their surgery. Dr. Bandeian instructs his patients to call him personally on the evening of their surgery to let him know how they are doing. Dr. Bandeian removes the bulky bandage and replaces it with a smaller one on the first post-operative day. Some sutures are removed about 5–7 days after the surgery, and the rest are removed 10–14 days after the surgery. Bruising may last from 1 to 2 weeks. Usually a facelift will last for about 5 years, however, as seen in the pictures, a facelift may last longer than 5 years.
Some patients ask Dr. Bandeian about the “Life Style Face Lift” they see advertised on television. Although Dr. Bandeian does not do the “Life Style Face Lift”, he does short scar face lifts (also known as MCAS face lift). A short scar face lift is a less extensive operation that can produce excellent results so long as the effects of aging are not too severe. It is less expensive, can be done in less time, and requires less recovery time than a traditional face lift. The short scar facelift is a more extensive operation than a “mini face-lift” which in the opinion of Dr. Bandeian does not produce significant benefits.
A forehead lift elevates the eyebrows, corrects hooding of the upper eyelids and corrects wrinkles on the forehead. It can be combined with a face lift. It is also done with local anesthesia and sedation by vein. The recovery for a forehead lift is generally faster than for a face lift.
In addition to performing facelift surgery in Bristol, TN, Dr. Bandeian also offers surgical treatments for Bristol eyelid surgery, Botox and Juvederm patients seeking to rejuvenate their appearance.
