Botox costs $7/unit. Dysport costs $7/3 units.
Botox and Dysport injections are safe and effective non-surgical forms of facial rejuvenation that are capable of producing phenomenal improvements in the appearance of your face by reducing or removing wrinkles. Botox and Dysport are classified as neurotoxins.
Dysport is nearly identical to Botox, but it works faster. Three units of Dysport produce an effect similar to one unit of Botox. Common areas for Botox/Dysport injections include horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows and "crow's feet" around the eyes. Less common areas are lines on the lips, lower cheeks and chin. Botox/ Dysport, especially when combined with a face peel, are the best non-surgical form of facial rejuvenation and together, they are capable of producing phenomenal improvements in your appearance.
Botox and Dysport are classified as neurotoxins and they both contain botulism toxin A. The effect of Botox is typically seen after 7 days, and the effect of Dysport is typically seen after 3 or 4 days. They both last about the same time, and the cost is comparable, although the measurement of their units is different.
Both Botox and Dysport paralyze facial muscles, and thereby relax and reduce winkles caused by the contraction of these muscles. And just as important, both Botox and Dysport can prevent the formation of these wrinkles, if they are used before the wrinkles are formed. Neither Botox nor Dysport will remove deep lines. Treatment of deep lines requires either a filler injection or a resurfacing procedure like a peel. While it is true that Botox/Dysport will relax and erase lines that are not too deep, Dr. Bandeian strongly recommends that Botox/Dysport treatment be started and continued before permanent deep lines are formed. It is important to understand that these products cannot prevent wrinkles caused by sagging skin from the effects of gravity or wrinkles caused by years of sun exposure.
As a person ages, the skin gradually loses its elasticity. That is why the facial muscles that don’t cause wrinkles in young people, cause wrinkles as people age.
The most common use of Botox/ Dysport is for the vertical frown line between the eyebrows. They are also very effective for treating horizontal lines on the forehead and for crow’s feet (smile) lines. Less often, they are used to treat lip lines and the droop at the corner of some mouths.
Another use of Botox/ Dysport is to improve (but not eliminate) hooding of the upper eyelids. This is accomplished b using them to elevate the eyebrows. They cannot eliminate hooding because they only raise the eyebrows, at most by about 2 mm, which is a very small lift. Some patients have one eyebrow that is lower than the other. The eyebrow positions can often be corrected by using Botox/ Dysport to elevate the low eyebrow.
Botox/ Dysport injections sting a little, and if a patient is willing to wait for an additional 20 minutes for the topical numbing cream to work, the injections are nearly painless. There is very little swelling and bruising from the injections. This is essentially a no-down time procedure. Dr. Bandeian’s nurse, Connie, usually does the injections. Patients should avoid engaging in heavy physical exercise, applying cosmetics, or laying down flat or bending forward with head lower than your heart for a minimum of 4 hours after the injections
Dr. Bandeian recommends that his patients return in 1-2 weeks for a no-charge office visit to be sure the patient has the desired result. Dr. Bandeian recommends that his patients return in 3-4 months for more Botox/ Dysport. Regardless of who does the injections, the satisfaction rate is quite high for Botox/ Dysport, and complications are rare.
